ReplyDeleteGreyhawk is better than The Forgotten Realms, IMHO, in that isn't bogged down by fandom lore; it's a skeleton upon which you can flesh out whatever region you wish in your own image. Like court intrigue? The Great Kingdon/Alhissa. Something with a Byzantine flavor? Ket and Bissel. Something with a Lord of the Rings vibe? Furyondy. I love the Northeast: Ratik and the Barbarians, the Pale, the Bandit Kingdoms. Perrenland excites me too, these days; Iggwilv's domain looms in the Yatils, Ket and the Highfolk and the Nomads and Iuz surround it. What can I say, I'm a Northern Ontario boy. Cold climes call to me.

And thanks to you for the response. We have a strong community that never goes away, even if the official owners of the setting keep it on a mantle. The fandom will always keep the torch burning.
