1. Zeif
The Sultanate of
Zeif is the largest of the civilized Baklunish states. It is a prosperous
coastal monarchy with merchants and navy vessels seen throughout the Dramidj Ocean. Zeif also notably has
superb cavalry, including Paynim mercenaries. Advised by a grand vizier, the
sultan has a claim of descent to rule the old Bakulinsh Empire which brings Zeif into conflict with neighboring Ekbir.
2. Ekbir
The Caliphate of
Ekbir is a lawful theocratic domain on the Dramidj coast. Founded by the hero-deity Al’Akbar, Ekbir is known for its open trade, devout religions and
political stability. It has a strong navy, a renowned military and was once
generous to all refugees, until the rabble Tiger
and Wolf Nomads were expelled
from this land.
3. Tusmit
The state of Tusmit
is a wealthy emirate whose pasha keeps a tenuous independence between larger Zeif and Ekbir. It is known for crafting fine weapons and armor, and employs
mercenaries from all around including Perrenland
and dwarves from the Crystalmists
to keep its borders secure. Skilled thieves and assassins also can be hired in
Tusmit.
4. Ket
Nestled between the Yatil
Mountains and the Barrier Peaks,
Ket is a crossroads of east and
west. While predominantly a Baklunish
theocracy, the admixture of different cultures in Ket is seen in everything
here including its military. Indeed, over the centuries Ket has either been
invaded or made strange alliances in conflict, further adding to its diversity.
Merchants hold a lot of power here, trading with neighbors in peace or war.
5. Plains of the
Paynims
The uncounted nomads called the Paynims roam the expansive plains and the Dry Steppes in seasonal cycles. They are best known for their herding
and skill with horses. Despite one settlement on the steppes, the Paynims have
no central authority; each tribal leader holds a various noble title and they
often fight one another while serving as mercenaries throughout the Baklunish West. They also conflict with
nearby Ull whom like the Tiger and Wolf Nomads of the bitter north, have common ancestry with the
Paynims.
6. Ull
Ull is a semi-nomadic frontier land on the edge of the Dry Steppes. During the migrations,
some Oeridian tribes stayed behind to settle in this secluded region until the
arrival of the Uli nomads who
decided to occupy its plains and towns as their own. Today, Ull is a harsh, unforgiving
realm known for its warlike horsemen, vicious slavers and monstrous blood sports.
